Sunday is always a good day for baseball as it was a good day for The San Diego Padres as they won 3-1 over the Pirates,as they take 3 out of 4 from them.

Let’s start with the pitching since there was very little batting, but what little there was it was mostly the Padres. Jake Peavy was there starter going a solid 7 innings pitched giving up 4 hits one run it was earned with 3 BB 10 strikeouts showing us his CY Young Winning stuff. Heath Bell and Trevor Hoffmancombined to throw up 2 shutout innings behind Peavy with Hoffman getting his 21st save of the year.

Batting wise the Padres had enough to get it done, Josh Bard single in the first run of the game in the 4th, then in the 8th and 9th inningsScott Hairston(8th) and J.Bard(9th) both with solo shots just putting the flame out on what was once a hot swinging Pirates team that lead most of the first half in hitting among the NL.

The Padres have now came to terms with being out of it, still no one is running away with it in the NL west but it would take a long shot miracle to get to the playoffs, the only thing on its side it has been done before. My point is the Padres might as well play like they have noting to play for besides pride and somewhat of a respectable record, then maybe they will go out there and just have fun, picking up wins along the way.

Tomorrow game will be Greg “mad dag” Maddux(3-8) vs M.Owings(6-8) game start at 7:05pm pt/10:05pm et 4SD/704-HD | RADIO: XPRS 1090/105.7 FM , XEMO 860

Pitching wise the padres were looking pretty good with the starter J.Banks going 5 and two thirds giving up 6 hits 5 runs all earned but banks behalf Cla Meredith gave up a run that should have been held, but banks also had 2 BB and 3 strikeouts and gave up two bombs.
C.Meredith, Justin Hampson and Mike Adams combined two throw up 2 and one third innings scoreless giving up only 2 hits 2BB one strikeout.
Mike Corey went two thirds of an inning giving up a solo shot to Bautista; Trevor Hoffman got his 20th save of the season on one third of an inning.

4:32pm: More from The San Diego Padres GM Kevin Towers - he’s had inquiries on Jake Peavy, Trevor Hoffman, Heath Bell,Kevin Kouzmanoff, and Khalil Greene. Potential deals will be assessed after the season, though Towers wants Hoffman to stay until the end of his career.
2:43pm: MLB.com’s Corey Brock has the latest on the Padres and Greg Maddux.
Maddux apparently will only accept a trade to a West Coast team, preferably the Dodgers. Padres GM K.Towers doesn’t mind trading within the division. The only piece missing is interest from L.A. They’ve got good pitching depth, but if Maddux could be added at a reasonable price, why not? The Professor has a 4.18 ERA this year.
Don’t expect to see younger Padres like K.Kouzmanoff, K.Greene, or Josh Bard on the move. Towers said a trade of any of those three is “very doubtful.”

On Monday The San Diego Padrestried to start a series off on the right foot, it was a tight fight that the padres ended up winning. In the first they scored two with one being a Bro-BI by Adrian Gonzales scoring brother Edger Gonzales, then Kevin Kouzmanoff scored Brian Giles on a sacrifice fly.

The Reds responded with a solo homer by E.Encarnacion in the bottom of the 2ND inning, then again in the 3rd inning with a RBI single by J.Bruce. Also in the 6th inning Ken Griffey Jr. hit a two run bomb making it  4to2.

The next inning the padres responded with a solo homer by Scott Hairston making it 4-3 reds, and the reds never came back with a answer from the padres scoring after that. In the ninth inning the padres secured it with a B.Giles fielder’s choice scoring S.Hairston, then a two RBI double by K.Kouzmanoff scoring both Gonzales brothers.

Josh Banks went 5 and two thirds innings giving up 7 hits 4 runs all earned, Joe Thatcher finished out the inning for banks with a third of an inning with a strikeout. Also again another bright note, Clay Hensley went two scoreless innings with a BB and a strikeout, plus Trevor Hoffman got his 18th save of the year but not with out making us sweat it out giving up 4 hits, two strikeouts on a full inning.

For today’s Game the Padres have star aceJake Peavy(7-6) vs Cueto(can find first name7-9) at same time again today 4:10pm pt. Let hope for the same result but maybe better!

At this point in time if The San Diego Padres become sellers here are a few key suggestions for good trades too upgrade the team for 09′ and the years to come!

Trade Tampa Bay RF-Erik Hinske, Jeff Niemann RHP(AAA) and Reid Fronk LF(A) for Jody Gerut and Trevor Hoffman.
The big one being Kevin Kouzmanoff ,Tadahito Iguchi ,Joe Thatcher ,Michael Barrett, Paul McAnulty , Justin Huber ,CL(AA)Greg Burke ,RHP(AA)Gabriel DeHoyos and Jon Schemmel 2B(AA) for Brian Fuentes and Garrett Atkins.

Wow, that wasn’t what you usually see out of Trevor Hoffman in the ninth inning.  Hoffman gave up back to back home runs to Brendan Harris and Brian Buscher and the Minnesota Twins defeated the Padres 3-1.  Tough loss for the Padres and you can only hope that they will bounce back from this and pick up a victory over the Twins on Wednesday.

Hoffman is now 1-5 after taking the loss in the game.  Padres starting pitcher Jake Peavy pitched six inning and allowed five hits and one run.  Peavy struck out six Twins batters and only walked one.  Bryan Corey pitched the seventh inning and Heath Bell pitched the eighth inning without getting into to much trouble.

Chase Headley had the only rbi for the Padres.  Headley grounded out in the seventh inning and Adrian Gonzalez scored.  The Padres struck out nine times and left 11 runners on base.  No wonder why they didn’t win this close ballgame.  They could never get a rally going and knock in that one or two runs like they should have.

The Padres will now try to even the series up on Wednesday.  I like their chances as Greg Maddux will take the mound.  Padres Blog

Randy Wolf and two relief pitchers limited the Los Angeles Dodgers to only five hits on Wednesday night as the San Diego Padres defeated the Dodgers 4-1.  Wolf pitched the first seven innings of the game and only gave up four hits and one run.  The one run came on a home run by Andy LaRoche in the fourth inning.

Wolf did a great job keeping the Dodgers off balanced as he struckout nine batters and only walked one in his seven innings of action.  Heath Bell pitched scoreless eight inning before he turned things over to Trevor Hoffman in the ninth inning who gave up on hit but recorded his 15th save of the season.

Edgar Gonzalez hit his first home run of the season in the first inning to get the Padres on the scoreboard.  Khalil Greene then hit a solo home run in the second inning to give the Padres a 2-0 lead.  In the third inning it was a Adrian Gonzalez rbi single that put the Padres up 3-0 and then in the seventh inning Jody Gerut had a rbi single for the fourth run of the game.  It was a balanced scoring effort by the Padres at the plate, and that is always great to see.

The Padres will play the Dodgers once more and it will be the rubber game of the series. The game will be Thursday afternoon, so get out to the ball park if you can and enjoy a great afternoon of Padres baseball!

The San Diego Padres beat the New York Mets in the ninth inning on a play that you rarely ever see end a game.  The Padres had the bases loaded and Paul McAnulty was hit by a Scott Schoeneweis to score Scott Hairtson for the winning run.  No problem with that if you’re a Padres fan, a win is a win!

Trevor Hoffman picked up the win as he pitched the top of the ninth inning.  Hoffman is now 1-4 on the season.  Josh Banks got the start on the mound for the Padres and tossed six innings, allowing five hits and only one run.  Very good outing for Mr. Banks.  Justin Hampson and Heath Bell both threw scoreless innings in relief of Banks.

Even though the Padres had 12 hits in the game, they were only able to push across two runs.  Tha is what happens when you don’t string two or three hits together and leave 19 runners on base.  Besides the bases loaded hit by pitch run in the ninth inning, the other Padres run came in the third inning when Tadahito Iguchi had a rbi double to score Banks.
