Here is something pretty big that is stuck in my throat that is hard to swallow as a Padres fans! Can you find the holes where the money is going. One thing its not going too the players that are performing well this year Adrian or Edger, oh but wait I can’t even find him on this list. Because he on a minor league contact, if I was going to guess and I know the Padres either splitting a contact with someone or a few; or he’s making under 50k.

The San Diego Padres fight it out with the Mets,but lose close one!

In a close one fought out by The San Diego Padres and The New York Mets, the Mets came out on top 6-5. Although the Mets where out slugged by the Padres 11 hit to the Mets six.
The starting pitching didn’t look to shabby with Chris Youngmaking his second start since his return from the DL; he went 5 and one third on one hit 2 runs both earned 5 BB 5 strikeouts and one HR in the 4th inning by F.Tatis that ended the no hitter he was throwing. Bullpen notes not much to look at as they gave away the game.
With Clay Hensley, Mike Adams and Justin Hampson combing to give up 5 hits 4 runs 3 earned one BB and one HR given up too F.Tatis(no not a typo) he hit two in this game, like he’s trying to revive his career or something.
The Bats were out and hitting but the Padres just could not find away to get the run that where on, across home plate.
As Kevin Kouzmanoff hit his 16th home run of the year, he also had another hit and a run scored making him 2 for 4 at the plate. Adrian Gonzalez hit his 27th bomb of the year; he also had a run scored and 2 strikeouts. Jody Gerut in the 9th inning brought the Padres back within one of the Mets with a 3-run homerun, he also had two other hits and a run scored making him 3 for 5 on the day.
Other notes from the batting lineup: Chase Headley went 2 for 3 with two single, which is good to see him getting back on-track. Nick Hundley had a run scored one hit one BB and one strikeout, plus in a pitch-hit appearance Scott Hairston went 1 for 1 with a walk.
On a sour note that I didn’t want too point out but I have to say something one bad move this winter was wasting 3.85 million on Tadahito Iguchi for second base when we signed Edger Gonzalez, granted they didn’t know if Edger would’ve work out, but they could’ve assumed that he is Adrian’s brother and those Gonzalez’s know how to play baseball, around.
Also this is hard to swallow for Padres fans, how we can really think that the front office is really doing a good job. I don’t want too think like,” what have you done lately” or “what have you done all together”. You paid a veteran CF 8 million,6 of it was guaranteed to play for us, when the whole team was slumping you blamed him, when his missed a few plays in the outfield you blamed him for the poor performances of the whole outfield.
Needless to say the front office cut him from the roster after basically paid him 6 mill.+ to have major league spring training at the beginning of the season, then he goes on to pull the usually numbers and web gems he is know for with a different club; on our salary pay(the Padres), can you guess how I am talking about, I bet you know his name: Jim Edmonds with a line of 26games 90AB 6runs 10BB 24SO .265/.233/.178 OBP/SLG/AVG with the Padres, then we let his go and with The Chicago Cubs a line of 54games 162AB 26runs 25hits 12HR 36RBI 35SO 27BB and .379/.586/.278.
Now when we signed Edmonds I told people don’t expect too much besides a good name in the lineup that other teams would have to think around him in the order to bet our lineup. But as soon as he did not hit homer after homer like he did in his prime, the blame went directly too him about how the Padres buy old players that are washed up, then once the Padres(front office) felt the pressure from the fans, then blamed him for lack of runs and errors in the outfield. They cut him then they felt the same ole pressure from the fans about letting people go so they could succeed somewhere else.
So far I can account for close too 10 million just between those two. Then go ahead and count Tony Clark, Mark Prior, Glendon Rusch and Michael Barrett combined to waste 6.275 million. Barrett being the biggest waste at 3.5 million for 30games 94AB 9runs 19hits 2HR 9RBI 9BB 16SO .274/.298/.202. Second biggest waste Prior a cool million and he wouldn’t even pitch this year or if ever again. Clark and Rusch not two bad 1.775 between both of them, Clark was worth all of his plus more, but Rusch was only with us two weeks at the most.
My point is that I am tried of the blame going to the team, when it wasn’t pieced together very good at all. For example if you buy a cat at a dog’s price you don’t beat them because they don’t protect your house like a dog, and if you spend wisely then maybe you’ll succeed to win something like a World Championship.

The San Diego Padres sell low on Randy Wolf!

A late move this afternoon as The San Diego Padresmade their second move before the trade deadline as for the second time they sell low. I didn’t think their first move was right when they sold Tony Clarkto a team we have to compete with, unless they don’t think they have a chance this year, but the thing is that no one is running away with it in the NL west so why would you trade a player known for killing you in big time situation!
So on a bitter note the padres made a similar move today, but they at least didn’t trade within the division but they did sell pretty low for a left-hand veteran that they could of used down the stretch.
Well it went like this the padres acquired RHP Chad Reineke from The Houston Astros in exchange for LHP Randy Wolf.
R.Wolf with the line of 6-10 4.74 ERA IN 21 games 119.2IP 123 hits 69 runs 63 of them earned 14HRs 8 hit batters 47 BB and 105 strikeouts. For in-exchange for:
C.Reineke a RHP starter for The Round Rock Express(AAA) the Houston apparent club, with a line of: 5-9 4.41ERA in 20 games 19 of them started one complete game 112.1 innings pitched giving up 112 hits 62 runs 55 of them earned 15HRs 35BB 100 strikeouts. one bright note he is only 26 years old so we’ll see what becomes of him.

The San Diego Padres loss the first game after All-Star Break! Jake Peavy gets knock around.

On the first game back from the All-Star Break The San Diego Padres lose a close one as Jake Peavygets toss around as he gave up back-to-back jacks the 4th inning by R.Ankiel and T.Glaus had two the day,

one more too J.Mather in the 7th inning. All-n-All he still didn’t do to bad with a line of 7 IP on 8 hits 4 runs all earned by HR 7 strikeouts and 0 BB. Mike Adamspitched a scoreless 8th inning only giving up one hit and got one strikeout.

Offensively they didn’t could not get it done scoring 3 runs on 9 hits with 6 left on base. The Highlights of the offence were as followed. Edger Gonzales had 2 runs 2 hit 1 RBI and 2 strikeouts,

brother Adrian Gonzales had 2 hit 1 BB 1strikeout, while Kevin Kouzmanoff had 1 run 2 hits 1 RBI 1BB 1 strikeout, Chase Headley had 1 hit 1 RBI, And don’t forget about Jake Peavywith 2 hits. They really do need to found away to get more run support for pitchers or no one will want to take the mound for us.

On another note Tony Clark was traded too The Arizona Diamondbacks for Minor League RHP Evan ScribnerI kind of thought they went in wrong direction on this one, there were a lot better talent in their farm league like C Sean Coughlin with 10 HR 58 RBI 38/39 BB/SO ratio OBP .367/SLG.489/AVG.262/OPS.856 or there’s

RF Derrick Walkerhitting a line of 7 HR 40 RBI 37/83 BB/SO ratio with 6 SB and OBP.366/SLG.414/AVG.249/OPS.780 either one of those would have been worth it,both play with The South Bend Silver Hawks(A). By the way I can’t seem to find stats on E.Scribner, maybe it was a phantom trade just to get ride of Tony C. well if they were going to do that could they at least phantom trade him to the AL, not within our division!

Padres Rumors:Maddux,Wolf,Clark and Greene

The latest on the team’s trade candidates:

The Atlanta Braves beat writer Mark Bowman talked to Greg Maddux, who as you know has a full no-trade clause. When asked where he could see himself playing in August and September, Maddux named The Atlanta Braves and The L.A Dodgers. He said he’d likely approve a trade to Atlanta.

Neither team may be interested, however. Bowman says The Atlanta Bravesare looking for offense and prefer to develop their young pitchers. And Maddux himself doesn’t think The Dodgers need pitching (after all, they’ve got Clayton Kershaw in the minors).

We learned on Friday That Padres GM Kevin Towers has informed Greg Madduxof which teams are interested, and Maddux will take the break to consider his options. Would he be up for The Philadelphia Phillies or The St. Louis Cardinals? Are those teams interested?

GM Kevin Towers recently told Greg Maddux which teams have expressed interest in him. The Professor will ponder his options over the break, since he controls his fate with a full no-trade clause. Possible suitors like The Chicago Cubs and The Milwaukee Brewers may have backed off, I imagine.
As expected, Randy Wolf is drawing interest.
Tony Clark could be moved within a few days, with The Arizona Diamondbacks the rumored suitor.
The Padres are only looking to move veterans, and want prospects in return.
The Cubs recently inquired on The Padres shortstop Khalil Greene. Who prefer not to sell low on Greene, however.The Cubs have been linked to Khalil Greene in the past, and The Padres were asking about Felix Pie about a year ago. Perhaps Pie has lost the untouchable label with his .264/.315/.442 performance at Triple A. He’s hitting better lately, though.
Khalil Greene is on the first year of a two-year, $11MM deal. He’s said he wants to stay in San Diego, though Kevin Towers once suggested he might prefer to be on The East Coast near his family. Khalil Greene’s had a rough year with a .216/.264/.329 line in 375 plate appearances.

Padres score seven in the ninth to beat the Rockies 15-8

The San Diego Padres had two big innings on Monday night where they scored five and seven runs to beat the Colorado Rockies 15-8. A five run sixth inning inning and then a huge seven run ninth inning fueld the Padres to the win in Denver as they kicked off a three game series with the Rockies.

Edgar Gonzalez went 4-5 with two home runs and three rbi in the game as he had a great night at the plate. Jody Gerut had a three run home run in the ninth inning and also had a rbi in the sixth inning to finish the game with a team high four rbi. Kevin Kouzmanoff added a solo home run and a rbi single as he had two rbi. Brian Giles, Adrian Gonzalez, Khalil Greene, Michael Barrett, Tony Clark, and Craig Stansberry all chipped in with one rbi each as well.

Heath Bell improved his record to 6-3 as he recorded the win for the Padres after throwing the eighth inning. Brett Tomko pitched a scoreless ninth inning to finish off the Rockies. Greg Maddux had a bad game as he only lasted 4 2/3 innings after giving up eight hits and eight runs. The Rockies hit Maddux hard, and Maddux was lucky that the Padres came back in the game so he didn’t get the loss.

Padres suffer 2-1 loss to the Yankees

The San Diego Padres suffered a 2-1 loss to the New York Yankees on Thursday afternoon. With the 2-1 loss, the Padres were swept in the three game series. It was definately now how the Padres wanted things to go but they ran into a red hot Yankees team and couldn’t pull out any wins.

Josh Banks took the loss for the Padrs even though he didn’t pitch that badly. Banks threw 5 1/3 innings and gave up four hits and two runs. The Padres bullpen did a pretty good job holding the Yankees scoreless for the rest of the game however. Justin Hampson, Bryan Corey, and Heath Bell all did a good job.

Tony Clark had the only rbi for the Padres which came in the fourth inning. Clark hit a ground rule double that score Brian Giles. Other then that, the Padres only had four other hits in the game against Joba Chamberlain and the rest of the Yankees pitchers.

The Padres will try to turn things around against the Detroit Tigers this weekend. Padres Blog

Padres can’t seem to stop the Cubs in 9-6 loss.

The machine known as the Chicago Cubs steam rolled the padres for a second straight night. The padres jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3^rd. The first on an errant pick off throw by Jason Marquis, which allowed starting pitcher Wilfredo Ledezma to score from 3^rd base. The second run coming on a two out single by NL RBI leader Adrian Gonzalez (55).

The Cubs bounced right back in the 4^th as Alfonso Soriano led off with a double to deep left. He would score on a fielders choice hit by Aramis Ramirez to cut the lead in half 2-1.

The friars weren’t going down easy tonight though. Paul McAnulty led off with a walk, followed by a single by Michael Barrett moving McAnulty to third. Khalil Greene hit a sacrifice fly to center to score McAnulty to give Ledezma a two run lead to work with.

Ledezma was not able to follow up his impressive outing last week. He walked five batters today including three in the 5^th inning. Reed Johnson led off with a double, Ledezma then walked Mark DeRosa and Johnson stole 3^rd on ball four. Ledezma was able to induce a ground out from Ronny Cedeno and struck out Jason Marquis. It appeared that Wil would be able to escape the inning. However, Ledezma threw a pitch that got by Barrett, the ball took a lucky bounce straight back to the catcher. Barrett threw to Ledezma covering, Johnson stayed at third, however DeRosa assumed Johnson would break home and he was almost to third. What appeared to be a gift of an out turned into nothing when Ledezma elected to fake a throw to second allowing both runners to get back into position. That non throw would come back to hurt Ledezma, he walked the next batter Alfonso Soriano to load the bases and walked Ryan Theriot to allow a run and make it a 3-2 game. Derrek Lee then hit a hard shot toward left to score DeRosa and would have also knocked in Soriano if it wasn’t for Khalil Greene’s diving save to limit Lee’s drive to one run tying the game 3-3.

The Cubbies struck again in the 6^th with two home runs of reliever off Brian Corey. The first a solo shot from Geovany Soto (10) and the was followed by a two run shot by Mark DeRosa (6) making it a 6-3 Cubs lead.

In the 8^th the Cubs bats got hot again Ronny Cedeno singled, Mike Fontenot walked and Alfonso Soriano hit a monster three run homerun (14) onto the upper deck in left center to give the Cubs a 9-3 lead.

The Padres did show some heart in the 8^th Kevin Kouzmanoff led off with a walk followed by a single from Paul McAnulty, Greene then singled to load the bases for pinch hitter Tony Clark; he was able to draw bases loaded walk. Bud Black then called in Edgar Gonzalez to pinch-hit, Edgar responded with a single to left scoring McAnulty and brining up the trying run in Tadahito Iguchi. Iguchi was able to knock in Khalil Greene with on a fielders choice. With two out and men on first and third, Brian Giles came up to bat. With a full count and RBI leader Adrian Gonzalez on deck, Bob Howry was able to freeze Giles with a fastball for strike three to end the rally.

In the Padres ninth Adrian Gonzalez was able to hit a lead off double for his third hit of the evening, and the only extra base hit the Pads had all night. That was all Cub closer Kerry Wood would allow as he retired the next three padres in a row for his 16^th save and the Cubs 9^th win in a row.

The Padres will send future Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux to the mound tomorrow to Face Ted Lilly in the series finale.

In a battle of lefties Perez beats Estes

Shawn Estes has been close to perfect since being inserted back into the starting rotation. However a wild 4^th inning seemed to doom him and the Padres. In the top of the 4^th inning Estes seemed to loose control of his curve ball, with men on 1^st and 2^nd Estes threw two consecutive wild pitches followed by a third that hit batter Lastings Milledge loading the bases for Jesus Flores. Flores jumped on a 1-2 fastball and sent it out of left field for a grand slam (2) and also giving the Nationals a 4-0 lead.

Odalis Perez seemed to have great control over the Padre lineup. The Padres were able to hit the ball well, however well placed National players had no problem running down deep shots the warning track. The Padres missed timely hitting stranding one runner in the first and two runners in the 3^rd inning.

In the 5^th inning Tadahito Iguchi was able to score Jody Gerut on a broken bat blooper however that would be the end of the scoring as Brian Giles was retired with two men on board.

Mike Adams came in to relief Estes in the 6^th and promptly gave up a solo home run to Lastings Milledge (3) giving the Nats a 5-1 lead.

In the 7^th the Nationals Felipe Lopez hit a double to center, Cristian Guzman singled to right and Aaron Boone was able to score Lopez on a sacrifice fly to give the Nats a 6-1 lead.

In the bottom of the 7^th inning the swinging friars came to life with Luke Carlin and Tony Clark hit back to back doubles to bring the Padres within range. Scott Harriston was hitting the ball hard all night and connected for a two run homerun (7) scoring Clark and making the score 6-4. Iguchi then singled to right and Adrian Gonzalez was hit by a pitch to bring the go ahead run in Kevin Kouzmanoff up to the plate. However Nats pitcher Luis Ayala was able to hand Kouzmanoff his third strike out of the evening and putting to rest the Padres rally.

Ayala and Jon Rauch were able to sit down the last six Padre batters in a row to give the Nationals the 6-4 win.

Note: Justin Huber started in left field, however he was pulled after the first inning suffering from back spasms.

San Diego Padres sign Tony Clark to a one year contract

Veteran first basemen Tony Clark has a new team after agreeing on a one year contract with the SanDiego Padres . The contract will pay Clark $900,000 for the 2008 season. I wouldn’t expect much out of Clark other then some pitch hitting opportunities and filling it at first base one a week maybe.

Clark just isn’t the player he used to be and is getting up there in age. For $900,000 it won’t hurt the team so I won’t say it is a terrible signing. Just don’t expect Clark to provide a big spark for this team.
