The San Diego Padres gave up four runs in the final four innings on Thursday as they lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-4.  With the four run rally, the Braves swept th Padres in their three game series.

Joe Thatcher took the loss for the Padres as he gave up three his and a run in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Thatcher is now 0-4 on the season and needs to start throwing the ball better before he sees his butt on the bench for every game.

The other four runs by the Braves were all un-earned as the Padres had three errors in the game.  Starting pitcher Wilfredo Ledezma allowed one run, Shawn Estes allowed two runs, and Cla Meredith allowed one run.

Kevin Kouzmanoff had two rbi for the Padres as he led them at the plate.  Scott Hairston and Khalil Greene both had one rbi in the game as well.  The Padres just weren’t productive with runners on base as they left 18 runners on base in the game.

Greg Maddux was once again denied his 350th career win as the San Diego Padres lost to the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 7-4.  Maddux pitched 6.1 innings and gave up eight hits and three runs in the game.  It was the second straight game that Maddux was going for his 350th win of his career and the Padres were unable to get him a win.

Besides Maddux giving up three runs, Glendon Rusch and Kevin Cameron both gave up two runs each.

At the plate for the Padres, Scott Hairston hit two home runs to finish with three RBI.  Tadahito Iguchi chipped in with one RBI, but it wasn’t near enough to overcome the Phillies four runs.

The San Diego Padres beat the Houston Astros on Thursday to improve their record to 3-1 on the young season.  It was a two run homerun by Kevin Kouzmanoff that was the big hit of the ballgame.   When Kouzmanoff hit his homerun, it gave the Padres a one run lead in the first inning.

The Astros did battle back to tie up the ballgame in the 7th inning, Tadahito Iguchi singled in Scott Hairston for the go ahead and winning run.

Randy Wolf pitched six strong innings for the Padres.  He only allowed four hits, one earned run, and had five strikeouts.

Trevor Hoffman was able to secure his second save of the season.  It was nice to see after he blew the save on Wednesday.
