On saturday The San Diego Padres where shutout by B.Zito of the Gaints, and its not too say Jake Peavy didn’t pitch his Cy Young type stuff, he did its just Zito was on it as well.
The Padres where shutout 2-0, batting wise the Padres had nothing to be proud of with only three hits and two being by Brian Giles, and one by Scott Hairston.
Pitching was good just not enough run surpport, with Jake going 7 innings giving up 5 hit and one earned run with 7 strikeouts, Clay Hensley and Justin Hampson combine to throw up one and one third scoreless two hits one BB and one strikeout all being Hensley.
Cla Meredith went two thirds of an inning giving up 2 hits one run it was earned.

Tomorrow’s game will showcase Greg”mad dog”Maddux(4-8)vs Correia(2-5). TV: 4SD/704-HD | RADIO: XPRS 1090/105.7 FM , XEMO 860 at 1:05pm pt/3:05pm et.

Sunday is always a good day for baseball as it was a good day for The San Diego Padres as they won 3-1 over the Pirates,as they take 3 out of 4 from them.

Let’s start with the pitching since there was very little batting, but what little there was it was mostly the Padres. Jake Peavy was there starter going a solid 7 innings pitched giving up 4 hits one run it was earned with 3 BB 10 strikeouts showing us his CY Young Winning stuff. Heath Bell and Trevor Hoffmancombined to throw up 2 shutout innings behind Peavy with Hoffman getting his 21st save of the year.

Batting wise the Padres had enough to get it done, Josh Bard single in the first run of the game in the 4th, then in the 8th and 9th inningsScott Hairston(8th) and J.Bard(9th) both with solo shots just putting the flame out on what was once a hot swinging Pirates team that lead most of the first half in hitting among the NL.

The Padres have now came to terms with being out of it, still no one is running away with it in the NL west but it would take a long shot miracle to get to the playoffs, the only thing on its side it has been done before. My point is the Padres might as well play like they have noting to play for besides pride and somewhat of a respectable record, then maybe they will go out there and just have fun, picking up wins along the way.

Tomorrow game will be Greg “mad dag” Maddux(3-8) vs M.Owings(6-8) game start at 7:05pm pt/10:05pm et 4SD/704-HD | RADIO: XPRS 1090/105.7 FM , XEMO 860

On Monday The San Diego Padrestried to start a series off on the right foot, it was a tight fight that the padres ended up winning. In the first they scored two with one being a Bro-BI by Adrian Gonzales scoring brother Edger Gonzales, then Kevin Kouzmanoff scored Brian Giles on a sacrifice fly.

The Reds responded with a solo homer by E.Encarnacion in the bottom of the 2ND inning, then again in the 3rd inning with a RBI single by J.Bruce. Also in the 6th inning Ken Griffey Jr. hit a two run bomb making it  4to2.

The next inning the padres responded with a solo homer by Scott Hairston making it 4-3 reds, and the reds never came back with a answer from the padres scoring after that. In the ninth inning the padres secured it with a B.Giles fielder’s choice scoring S.Hairston, then a two RBI double by K.Kouzmanoff scoring both Gonzales brothers.

Josh Banks went 5 and two thirds innings giving up 7 hits 4 runs all earned, Joe Thatcher finished out the inning for banks with a third of an inning with a strikeout. Also again another bright note, Clay Hensley went two scoreless innings with a BB and a strikeout, plus Trevor Hoffman got his 18th save of the year but not with out making us sweat it out giving up 4 hits, two strikeouts on a full inning.

For today’s Game the Padres have star aceJake Peavy(7-6) vs Cueto(can find first name7-9) at same time again today 4:10pm pt. Let hope for the same result but maybe better!

On the good hot day in St.Louis,The San Diego Padres lose their fourth straight coming off the break. As the same story goes the padres started out strong but it wouldn’t hold up as, in the first inning Scott Hairston hit a single homerun to start the game. The Cardinals answer back the next inning. In the fifth the padres scored two with the Cha Seung Beak two run shot, making it 3-1. But it wouldn’t hold up as 0ne in the 7th and 3 in the 8th inning making it 5-3 Cards’.
In the ninth the Padres battled back to tie it up with singles by S.Hairston,Brian Giles and a double by Edger Gonzales loaded the bases then a one out double by Kevin Kouzmanoff scoring two, tied it up. Then in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded A.Miles he hit the ball so hard and fast he just kept walking off with the win on his shoulders, winning 9-5.
The San Diego Padres move on down the road to open a series with the Reds as the padres throw up Josh Banks vs. H.Bailey at 4:10pt.

At this point in time if The San Diego Padres become sellers here are a few key suggestions for good trades too upgrade the team for 09′ and the years to come!

Over 40 thousand plus were on hand to watch some Classic Baseball played by The Padres. Jake Peavy moved his record to a respectable 7-5,with a solid 7 innings pitched on only 4 hits, 0 earned and 7 strikeouts. A good bid too get into the All-Star Game on. Also Hoffman got his 17 save of the year on one strikeout. Heath Bell gave up two hits and but neither sored, also has a strikeout. Mike Adams appeared two thirds of an inning and gave up 2 hits then was removed for Bell. It was also The Padres 5 shutout of the year.

Offensively The Padres looked good, better than they have been scoring 4 runs on 9 hit. Scott Hairston had 2 runs and 2 hits(2B and 3B). While the Gonzales boys gave us something to cheer about Edgar 2 hit and RBI, as Adrian had 2 hits one run and RBI. Chase Headley had 2 hits an strikeout, Jody Gerut had The Brave killing RBI in the bottom of the sixth. All-in-All it was a good classic game ,I was impressed by the towels and am glad too see The Padres win the first game in the series that is important when you play a team like the Braves. Lets continue doing so tomorrow!

The San Diego Padres lost to the Florida Marlins by the score of 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon as the two teams finished up their three game series.  The Padres lost two out of three games against the Marlins as they just didn’t play very good baseball the past three days.

Cha Seung Baek took the loss and is now 2-4 after throwing give innings and allowing six hits and three runs.  Bryan Corey gave up two big runs in the ninth inning as well which really hurt the team because that pretty much put the game out of reach.  Mike Adams, Heath Bell, and Joe Thatcher all threw out of the pen without allowing runs score.

Scott Hairston stayed hot as he had a solo home run in the sixth inning.  The Padres then pushed across another run in the ninth inning on a Chase Headley rbi single but that was all they could get.

In the end, it was a dissappointing series for the Padres.  They will now be off on Thursday and welcome the Atlanta Braves in for a three game series starting on Friday.

The San Diego Padres put a big whooping on the Florida Marlins Tuesday night as they tied the series up at 1-1 with a 10-1 victory.  It was a good game all the way around for the Padres as they hammered the Marlins pitching staff and got some good pitching from their own pitchers.

The Padres got all over the Marlins starting pitcher Andrew Miller for four runs and then hammered the bullpen for six more runs.  Chase Headley lead the team with four rbi while Scott Hairston had a three run home run to finish with three rbi.  Luis Rodriguez, Nick Hundley, and Brian Myrow all chipped in with one rbi each as well.

Randy Wolf pitched seven innings while giving up five hits and one run to pick up the win.  Wolf’s only mistake in the game came in the first inning when he gave up a solo home run to Jeremy Hermida.  Wolf is now 6-8 on the season with a 4.38 era.

Joe Thatcher pitched the eighth inning and then Cla Meredith pitched a scoreless ninth inning to finish off the Marlins.

The Padres will try to win the series with another victory on Wednesday.  Padres Blog

The San Diego Padres couldn’t get much going against the Minnesota Twins as they lsot 9-3 on Wednesday night and will now have to win on Thursday to avoid the three game sweep in the series.  The Padres had eight hits in the game compared to the Twins nine hits but the Padres were never able to get the big hits like the Twins did to score some runs.

Greg Maddux pitched the first 5 2/3 innings but gave up seven hits and seven runs.  Six of those seven runs were earned.  Maddux struck out three batters, walked two, and gave up one home run.  Maddux fell to 3-6 after taking the loss.

The Padres bullpen was pitching good until Mike Adams gave up two runs in the eighth inning on a Craigh Monroe home run.  Other then that, Carlos Guevara, Cla Meredith, and Justin Hampson pitched well out of the bullpen.

The Padres scored all three of their runs in the first two innings of the game and then were held scoreless the final seven innings.  Adrian Gonzalez grounded into a fielders choice but his little brother Edwin Gonzalez scored on the play in the first inning.  Later in the first inning, Kevin Kouzmanoff tripled and A. Gonzalez scored.  In the second inning Scott Hairston doubled and Michael Barrett scored for the Padres third and final run.

So will the Padres avoid the sweep and get a win on Thursday? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!  Padres Bloggers

Pitchers duel at Petco helps Padres avoid sweep.  Greg Maddux was vintage this evening working his was through seven innings on 69 pitches.  Retiring the Cubs first nine batters in a row before allowing a hit in the 4th inning.

Ted Lilly had a solid showing allowing only two runs over 7 and 1/3 innings.  Lilly was using the spacious outfield at Petco to his advantage.  After allowing a solo HR to Scott Hairston (8) to lead off the game the Padres hit numerous deep drives that simply died in the outfield.  The Padres wouldn’t regain the lead until the bottom of the eight off of reliever Carlos Marmol (run was charged to Lilly).

The Padres couldn’t seem to provide Maddux with enough run support again tonight.  On three occasions men were left standing at third waiting for a clutch hit to drive them in.

Brian Giles reached base three times on this evening, hitting three deep drives to center, two which dropped in for doubles.  Giles did lead off the 8th inning with one of those such drives.  Adrian Gonzalez was able to hit a deep fly ball to left center that was flagged down by Alfonso Soriano; Giles was able to tag up from second to third.  Kevin Kouzmanoff then hit a sacrifice fly to deep center scoring Giles from third and giving the Padres a 2-1 lead.

Trevor Hoffman came in to start off the 9th sending Mike Fontenot and Soriano down on strikes before allowing a base hit to Ryan Theriot.  The go ahead run in Derrek Lee came up to bat however on this evening the Padres would not be denied as Trevor struck out Lee on that famous change up; giving Hoffman his 12th save of the year and snapping the Cubs win steak at 9.

Josh Banks will try to cool off a hot New York Mets team that has won seven of it’s last 10.  The Padres will host the Mets in a four game series starting tonight.

The MLB 2008 First-Year player draft will take place in Florida this afternoon.  The Padres will select 23rd in the first round.  They also hold picks #42, #46, #69, #101 and #111 in the first three rounds.
