The San Diego Padres evened the series with the Chicago Cubs as they beat the Cubs 4-3 on a cold rainy night at Wrigley Field in Chicago.  No runs were scored after the fourth inning, and all four of the Padres runs came in the fourth inning.  Before that they were down 3-0.

Khalil Greene had a two run home run to lead the Padres at the plate.  He took Cubs starting pitcher Jason Marquis deep.  Jody Gerut then doubled to score two more runs.  Those two hits were all the Padres would end up needing to win the game.

Shawn Estes pitched 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win which was his first of the season.  Trevor Hoffman pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to get the save in the game.

The San Diego Padres gave up four runs in the final four innings on Thursday as they lost to the Atlanta Braves 5-4.  With the four run rally, the Braves swept th Padres in their three game series.

Joe Thatcher took the loss for the Padres as he gave up three his and a run in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Thatcher is now 0-4 on the season and needs to start throwing the ball better before he sees his butt on the bench for every game.

The other four runs by the Braves were all un-earned as the Padres had three errors in the game.  Starting pitcher Wilfredo Ledezma allowed one run, Shawn Estes allowed two runs, and Cla Meredith allowed one run.

Kevin Kouzmanoff had two rbi for the Padres as he led them at the plate.  Scott Hairston and Khalil Greene both had one rbi in the game as well.  The Padres just weren’t productive with runners on base as they left 18 runners on base in the game.

The San Diego Padres battled back with four runs in the eigth inning but quickly gave those four runs right back as the Houston Astros went onto beat the Padres 11-7.

Starting pitcher Jake Peavy gave up four earned runs which was how many he had given up in his previous four starts.  Peavy pitched six innings and allowed seven hits and four earned runs.  Not the typical Peavy performance that Padres fans are used to seeing.

Joe Thatcher and Glendon Rusch pitched the seventh inning as Thatcher gave up three earned runs.  Heath Bell threw the ninth inning and allowed four more runs to cross the plate.  Bell took the loss for the Astros and is now 0-2 on the season.

The Padres were led by Adrian Gonzalez and Paul McAnulty at the plate who both hit home runs.  Gonzalez hit a three run home run in the sixth inning and McAnulty had a two run home run in the eigth inning.  Gonzalez had three RBI, McAnulty had two RBI, while Brian Giles and Khalil Greene both had one RBI.

Adrian Gonzalez went 4-5 with a homerun, two RBI’s, and four runs scored to lead the San Diego Padres past the SanFrancisco Giants by the score of 8-4.  Gonzalez and the Padres jumped all over Giants starter Matt Cain and they never looked back.

Greg Maddux picked up his first win of the season and the 348th career victory.  Maddux pitched seven innings and only allowed three hits and one earned run.  Great performance by Maddux today!

Khalil Greene contributed with three RBI and Jim Edmonds wasn’t too far behind with two RBI.  Nice balanced offense today between Gonzalez, Greene, and Edmonds.

The San Diego Padres and shortstop Khalil Greene have finalized a two year contract that will pay Greene $11 million dollars.  Greene was rumored a few times in the off season to possibly being traded to the Chicago Cubs, but nothing ever happened with that deal.

Greene will now be under the Padres control for the next two years, and then he will be open to free agency.  The Padres had hoped to sign him to a three or four year deal, but settled on two.  Good signing for both Greene and the Padres I think.
