Hoffman got his 27th save of the year.
One Bad Note: Clay Hensley has been worked to death with 7 appearance in a week and his 9 outing 10 games, gave up 3 hits 2 runs both earned and one BB, and zero innings completed.

The batting lineup went like this;Scott Hairston went 1-2 with a BB and a strikeout, Chase Headley went 1-4 with a hit a RBI and a run scored, also 2 strikeouts, Jody Gerut went 3-4 with a run scored and a RBI, Edger Gonzalez went 1-4 with a run scored a RBI and 2 strikeouts.
Nick Hundley went 2-3 with two hits one being the one that killed the D-Backs, with a two run home run off of the Big Unit in the 7th, also a run scored. Brian Giles had a pitch hit appearance going 1-1 with a hit and a run scored.
Some Sour Notes to point out: Luis Rodriguez went 0-3 with a strikeout,Kevin Kouzmanoff went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts,Tadahito Iguchi had a pitch hit appearance and it was a strikeout, plus Sean Kazmar went 0-3 with a strikeout; We’ll cut him some slack since it was his 7th major league game started, and the 13th one he’s appeared in.

No game tomorrow.
NEXT GAME 8/29, is at Petco Park vs. the Rockies at 7:05pm pt/10:05pm et asDirk Hayhurst(0-0) vs. A.Cook(15-8).

Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes of a rumor that The San Diego Padres might slash payroll from this year’s $73.6MM way down to $40MM. The Padres reportedly explained this scenario to Brian Giles in an attempt to get him to accept a trade to Boston last week. Krasovic heard about the pitch via Giles’ teammates, but wasn’t able to draw any comments from GM Kevin Towers. Scott Miller believes owner John Moores’ divorce is a factor.

The Padres don’t have any large contracts on the books for ‘09; Giles would be their most expensive player at $9MM unless they choose his $3MM buyout. After that it’s Jake Peavy at $8MM, Khalil Greene at $6.5MM, Chris Young at $4.5MM, and Adrian Gonzalez at $3MM. By my count they have six arbitration-eligible players, including Josh Bard, Heath Bell, Scott Hairston, and Jody Gerut. The Padres could retain Giles and still be under $45MM, though that’d leave no money for free agents
