The San Diego Padres lose again too the Brewers 7-1 C.C Sabathia was his usally self going 7 innings 9 hits giving only one run and 8 k-out frairs. Out Pitching staff on the other hand, Josh Banks went 4 and one thirds innings giving up 5 hits 7 earned runs 6 BBs and one strikeout and one HR giving up.

The Bullpen has been showing up also of recently very well, and today was no different as Justin Hampson, Wilfredo Ledezma and Cla Meredith combined to throw up 4 and two thirds innings of shutout baseball; with 3 hits one walk and 6 strikeout.

The only offence that I am reporting is Nick Hundley 11th RBI of the season.

By Tim Dierkes

Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes of a rumor that The San Diego Padres might slash payroll from this year’s $73.6MM way down to $40MM.  The Padres reportedly explained this scenario to Brian Giles in an attempt to get him to accept a trade to Boston last week.  Krasovic heard about the pitch via Giles’ teammates, but wasn’t able to draw any comments from GM Kevin TowersScott Miller believes owner John Moores’ divorce is a factor.

The Padres don’t have any large contracts on the books for ‘09; Giles would be their most expensive player at $9MM unless they choose his $3MM buyout.  After that it’s Jake Peavy at $8MM, Khalil Greene at $6.5MM, Chris Young at $4.5MM, and Adrian Gonzalez at $3MM.  By my count they have six arbitration-eligible players, including Josh Bard, Heath Bell, Scott Hairston, and Jody Gerut.  The Padres could retain Giles and still be under $45MM, though that’d leave no money for free agents

Here is something pretty big that is stuck in my throat that is hard to swallow as a Padres fans! Can you find the holes where the money is going. One thing its not going too the players that are performing well this year Adrian or Edger, oh but wait I can’t even find him on this list. Because he on a minor league contact, if I was going to guess and I know the Padres either splitting a contact with someone or a few; or he’s making under 50k.

On saturday The San Diego Padres where shutout by B.Zito of the Gaints, and its not too say Jake Peavy didn’t pitch his Cy Young type stuff, he did its just Zito was on it as well.
The Padres where shutout 2-0, batting wise the Padres had nothing to be proud of with only three hits and two being by Brian Giles, and one by Scott Hairston.
Pitching was good just not enough run surpport, with Jake going 7 innings giving up 5 hit and one earned run with 7 strikeouts, Clay Hensley and Justin Hampson combine to throw up one and one third scoreless two hits one BB and one strikeout all being Hensley.
Cla Meredith went two thirds of an inning giving up 2 hits one run it was earned.

Tomorrow’s game will showcase Greg”mad dog”Maddux(4-8)vs Correia(2-5). TV: 4SD/704-HD | RADIO: XPRS 1090/105.7 FM , XEMO 860 at 1:05pm pt/3:05pm et.

Sunday is always a good day for baseball as it was a good day for The San Diego Padres as they won 3-1 over the Pirates,as they take 3 out of 4 from them.

Let’s start with the pitching since there was very little batting, but what little there was it was mostly the Padres. Jake Peavy was there starter going a solid 7 innings pitched giving up 4 hits one run it was earned with 3 BB 10 strikeouts showing us his CY Young Winning stuff. Heath Bell and Trevor Hoffmancombined to throw up 2 shutout innings behind Peavy with Hoffman getting his 21st save of the year.

Batting wise the Padres had enough to get it done, Josh Bard single in the first run of the game in the 4th, then in the 8th and 9th inningsScott Hairston(8th) and J.Bard(9th) both with solo shots just putting the flame out on what was once a hot swinging Pirates team that lead most of the first half in hitting among the NL.

The Padres have now came to terms with being out of it, still no one is running away with it in the NL west but it would take a long shot miracle to get to the playoffs, the only thing on its side it has been done before. My point is the Padres might as well play like they have noting to play for besides pride and somewhat of a respectable record, then maybe they will go out there and just have fun, picking up wins along the way.

Tomorrow game will be Greg “mad dag” Maddux(3-8) vs M.Owings(6-8) game start at 7:05pm pt/10:05pm et 4SD/704-HD | RADIO: XPRS 1090/105.7 FM , XEMO 860

On a Saturday evening in Pittsburgh the bats of The San Diego Padres came alive, as Adrian Gonzales had a multi-homerun game with a 3 run blast in the 1st and a solo in the 4th he also had 3runs scored and 3 hits 2 being homers. Kevin Kouzmanoff also had a 3 run dinger and scored one and one strikeout, Nick Hundley got his first homerun of the season and he also had 2 hits one being the homer then had one run scored and one more RBI.
Chase Headley had a hit and a run scored and two BB, Jody Gerut had two hits and strikeout, Edger Gonzales had a run scored and a BB AND Khalil Greene had a hit with a strikeout.

Also Brian Giles ended his 8 game hitting streak having two BB and two runs scored, Josh Banks also went 2-3 with two singles.
Pitching wise the padres were looking pretty good with the starter J.Banks going 5 and two thirds giving up 6 hits 5 runs all earned but banks behalf Cla Meredith gave up a run that should have been held, but banks also had 2 BB and 3 strikeouts and gave up two bombs.
C.Meredith, Justin Hampson and Mike Adams combined two throw up 2 and one third innings scoreless giving up only 2 hits 2BB one strikeout.
Mike Corey went two thirds of an inning giving up a solo shot to Bautista; Trevor Hoffman got his 20th save of the season on one third of an inning.

As the Padres try to take a series from the Pirates tomorrow starting at 10:35am pt/1:35pm pt they will put out their ace Jake Peavy(7-6) vs Maholm(7-6).4SD/704-HD | RADIO: XPRS 1090/105.7 FM , XEMO 860.

4:32pm: More from The San Diego Padres GM Kevin Towers - he’s had inquiries on Jake Peavy, Trevor Hoffman, Heath Bell,Kevin Kouzmanoff, and Khalil Greene. Potential deals will be assessed after the season, though Towers wants Hoffman to stay until the end of his career.
2:43pm: MLB.com’s Corey Brock has the latest on the Padres and Greg Maddux.
Maddux apparently will only accept a trade to a West Coast team, preferably the Dodgers. Padres GM K.Towers doesn’t mind trading within the division. The only piece missing is interest from L.A. They’ve got good pitching depth, but if Maddux could be added at a reasonable price, why not? The Professor has a 4.18 ERA this year.
Don’t expect to see younger Padres like K.Kouzmanoff, K.Greene, or Josh Bard on the move. Towers said a trade of any of those three is “very doubtful.”

A day after a close win for The San Diego Padres and hours after the news came down from up stairs about the trade of Randy Wolf, the padres lost to the Reds 4-3 in 11 innings. The Padres look like they didn’t want to be there. Jake Peavystarted out strong going 5 scoreless then in the sixth inning it came undone, as P.Bako hit a 2run single fallowed by a one run single by J.Votto.

Then in the 11th inning J.Keppinger hit a double which Chase Headleylooked like he gave up on it,  scoring the winning run in J.Burce, it was given up by Byan Corey it being the second walk-off giving up in as few days.
Mike Adams,Heath Bell,Cla Meredithcombined to throw up 4 scoreless innings only giving up one hit,2BB and 8 strikeouts.
Batting and fielding wise the padres seemed like they didn’t not want to play, they kind of look like boys who lost their dogs or best friends, very depressed look and play. They made basic plays into errors, they were swinging at balls and most of the time it was swings at ball 4, instead of taking them they looked comfortable walking back to the dougout.
The Padres had a combined total 6 hits three of them coming for Edger Gonzales and brother Adian Gonzales had one with a RBI,BB,SO.
One other bright spot is Brian Giles had one hit,one run two RBI’s,two walks, two SO
also Khalil Greene had a hit and Luke Carlin had a run scored.

All-in-All the game started out good but throughout the game you could since the Padres were not on top of their game, making clearly mental mistakes fielding and batting.
Tomorrow’s game will not be on T.V as Greg Maddux(3-8) vs B.Arroyo(8-7) at 9:35am can listen on XPRS 1090/105.7 FM , XEMO 860.
