At this point in time if The San Diego Padres become sellers here are a few key suggestions for good trades too upgrade the team for 09′ and the years to come!
Take the 08′ season to be over as of right now this is what I would do, Trade:
Brian Giles-RF, RHP-Justin Germano and Randy Wolf-LHP trade them to St.Louis for Colby Rasums-CF, Micthell Boggs-RHP AND (AA) C-Matt Pangnozzi.
Greg Maddux, Cla Meredith and Sean Henn LHP (AAA) to the Phillies for Kris Benson and T.J Bohn OF (AAA).
Scott Hairston and Edwin Moreno CL (AAA) to the Dodgers for SS-Parker Dalton and RHP-Robert Blevins (both A).
Then trade Josh Bard, Shawn Estes, Clay Hensley and Cha Seung Beak to Boston for SS-Iggy Suarez (AA) and RHP Kyle Weiland (A).
Trade Tampa Bay RF-Erik Hinske, Jeff Niemann RHP(AAA) and Reid Fronk LF(A) for Jody Gerut and Trevor Hoffman.
The big one being Kevin Kouzmanoff ,Tadahito Iguchi ,Joe Thatcher ,Michael Barrett, Paul McAnulty , Justin Huber ,CL(AA)Greg Burke ,RHP(AA)Gabriel DeHoyos and Jon Schemmel 2B(AA) for Brian Fuentes and Garrett Atkins.
Making the rest of the 08′ and the Padres for 09′ look like this;
Starting Pitching: 1.Jake Peavy 2.C.Y or Joshua Geer until C.Y gets back. 3. K.Benson 4.Josh Banks
5. M.Boggs or J.Geer whom ever steps up for the 5th spot in the rotation.
Bullpen: (CL) B.Fuentes, Heath Bell, Byan Corey, Mike Adams, Justin Hampson, Kevin Cameron and Will Ledezma until Brett Tomko returns from the 15 day-DL
Fielding squad: Luke Carlin or Nick Hudley at catcher, Adrian Gonzales-1B, Edger Gonzales-2B, Khalil Greene-SS, G.Atkins-3B, LF-Chase Headley, CF-Chip Ambres
RF-E.Hinske. Backup’s: OF-C.Rasums and T.J Bohn.INF-Brian Myrow and Louis Rodriguez.
The Batting lineup: 1.C.Ambres 2.Ed.Gonzales 3.G.Atkins 4.A.Gonzales
5. C.Headley 6.E.Hinske 7. K.Greene 8. L.Carlin or N.Hudley.
9. Starting Pitcher.
The San Diego Padresstarted out strong in the 1st inning with Adrian Gonzales scoring his brother with a RBI double andKevin Kouzmanoff scoring Brain Giles on the next hit. Then in the second inning Edger Gonzaleshit a 3 run home-run making it 5-0 padres.
But it would not hold up as Randy Wolfgave up 4 runs in the 5th inning and 2 in the sixth going 5 and two thirds innings give up 8 hits 6 runs, 4 of them earned 2 BB 4 SO. The game was close but the padres couldn’t respond after the cardinal started coming back in the 5th, the padres should have know that the cardinals powerful lineup was going to rebound after the first two innings.
Well will all see if the padres can pull at least one out of this series tomorrow with Cha Seung Baek(2-5) 5.25 ERA vs J.Garcia 0.00 in two innings pitched this year. On one positive note Clay Hensleywas brought up yesterday from Portland and today he pitched one scoreless inning.
After have a big offensive performance on Monday night, the San Diego Padres couldn’t hit the ball on Tuesday night as they were shut out by the Colorado Rockies and lost 4-0. Aaron Cook pretty much dominated the Padres as he tossed a complete game five hitter against them. The Padres and Rockies will now play a rubber match on Wednesday afternoon to see who will win the three game series.
Josh Banks took the loss and fell to 2-3 on the season. Banks was pitching really good until the fifth inning when he gave up four runs. An error by shortstop Khalil Greene didn’t help him out by any means in the fifth inning though. Clay Hensley threw two innings of relief before Cla Meredith pitched the eighth inning.
As for the Padres offense, there really isn’t a whole lot to blog about to be honest. Cook limited them to only five hits in the game and they were not able to score any runs. The offense took zero walks and struck out four times while leaving nine runners on base.
The San Diego Padres purchased the minor league contracts of Jody Gerut and Glendon Rusch on Wednesday night. Both players performed pretty well during spring training and earned a spot on the Padres roster.
The Padres also put some players on the disabled list on Wednesday.
Mark Prior and Tim Stauffer were both placed on the 60-day disabled list retroactive to March 21.
Clay Hensley, Justin Hampson, and Carlos Guevara were all placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 21.
The Padres also optioned Kevin Cameron and Luis Rodriguez to Triple-A Portland.
