The San Diego Padres plan to put infielder Jerry Hairston Jr. on the disabled list on Saturday with a strained ligament in his right elbow. The Padres said Friday night that Hairston won't need surgery but it will likely take two to three weeks to heal. Hairston said it hurts to throw but not to hit, so he could be used as a pinch-hitter.
