In fact, Phillies fans like myself were quite frustrated just two days ago when they had an ugly three-game losing streak. Arizona: RH reliever Joe Martinez was called up from Class AAA Reno and LH reliever Mike Zagurski’s contract was purchased from Reno. Martinez will be used as a long man in the bullpen, manager Kirk Gibson said, after LHP Wade Miley was moved from the ‘pen to the rotation when Daniel Hudson (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list Saturday. Martinez was 0-1 with a 4.42 ERA in three starts at Reno. Zagurski was 0-0 with a 2.90 ERA in six appearances at Reno, holding opponents to a .103 batting average. …

The Philadelphia Phillies don’t have much that they can count on at the moment. In fact, Phillies fans like myself can mostly only take comfort in the Philadelphia starting rotation. Without Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels and even Vance Worley and Joe Blanton to bail out the offense, no one would have any hope that this early slump would go away.

Maybe I’m going out on a limb here, but I’m pretty confident when I say that the 2012 Chicago Cubs will never have to worry about accusations of steroid usage amongst the players on their roster. What I’m starting to wonder is whether Sammy Sosa will be recognized for hitting more home runs in one season than this entire 2012 roster.
