The longest tenured general manager in baseball will be around even longer. The San Francisco Giants extended Brian Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy through the 2013 season, and include a club option for 2014. Sabean, 55, became GM in 1996 after three years in player personnel.

The San Diego Padres have offered salary arbitration to All-Star closer Heath Bell and right-hander Aaron Harang. New general manager Josh Byrnes says the move was predictable. If the players decline, the Padres will receive compensatory draft picks. Byrnes says it’s unlikely the players will accept arbitration, but the team will prepare for either scenario.

Wade LeBlanc likes how the Miami Marlins’ new uniforms look. He hopes to be wearing one next April. The Marlins acquired the left-hander from the San Diego Padres on Tuesday for catcher John Baker.
