The San Diego Padres:
Acquired two players to be named later or cash considerations from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for RHP Greg”Mad Dog”Maddux. Reinstated RHP Brett Tomko from the 15-day disabled list.
Mad Dog Maddux’s line with the Padres:
20-20 4.02 ERA in 60 games started one complete with 351.1 innings pitched 382 hits 172 runs 159 runs earned 30 HR 11 HBP 51 BB 184 SO. Now some may say that is average but in all my years as a Padres fan, I’ve seen pitchers come and go and some having stints as long as 3 years plus and still never pull numbers like that; So as a sad day for Padre fans.

I SAY FAIR WELL GREG”MAD DOG”MADDUX, as this is the last time I get to write about my favorite pitcher, and just FYI to all the Padres fan in Mad Dog’s last 10 starts he was 3-4 with the exception of the St.Louis and Florida where he had to eat a combined total of 15 runs in 13.5 innings because of the bullpen being worked to death.
In 5 out of 10 game(being loses or no decisions) he was given one or less runs for run support.

With The San Diego Padres turning to their newly acquired Rookie Chad Reineke for starting pitching help, he proved he was worth ever bite of ex-Padre Randy Wolf. Reineke looked Sharp; at first he struggled but then he settled in throwing up 5 innings 5 hits 3 runs all earned 3 BBs and 5 strikeouts, all-n-all he was throwing heat and locating with little effort.

The Bullpen followed-up with its shut down self (of lately) with Mike Adams,Clay Hensley,Heath Bell and newly acquired Padre Brian Falkenborg combining to throw up 4 shutout innings behind Reineke; only giving up one hit 2 BBs and 8 strikeouts.

The Batting had a tune that sounded like this, Jody Gerut went 3-5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Tadahito Iguchi went 2-4 with a hit a BB and 2 strikeouts, Brian Giles went 2-2 with 3 RBIs one hit one run scored and a sac-fly making 4 RBIs. Adrian Gonzalezwent 2-2 with 2 BBs, Kevin Kouzmanoff went 2-4 with an RBI, Chase Headley went 2-3 with one hit one walk and 2 runs scored.

Reineke helped himself to 1-2 with RBI hit and a run scored, and a strikeout, also Edger Gonzalez had a walk with a run scored on a pitch-hit appearance.

The San Diego Padres were able to come to terms with their first-round Draft pick, Allan Dykstra, moments before the 9 p.m. PT deadline.

Dykstra was the 23rd pick in this year’s First-Year Player Draft and played his collegiate ball at Wake Forest University. But he is a hometown kid, having played his high school baseball at Rancho Bernardo High School.

“We are extremely excited that we were able to reach an agreement with Allan Dykstra this evening,” said Padres director of scouting Bill Gayton. “It came down to the last hour. We spoke earlier this afternoon, and we had some conversations that obviously picked up as we neared the signing deadline.”

Dykstra was given a $1.15 million signing bonus.

The major hang up with the negotiations came after a team examination raised questions about a hip surgery Dykstra had during his days at Rancho Bernardo.

The examination revealed some issues with Dykstra’s hip, the same one that he had surgery on in high school. He’d developed avascular necrosis, a degenerative hip condition.

But Kevin Towers expressed that the deciding factor in going ahead with signing Dykstra was that his hip issues didn’t prevent him from playing collegiately for the last three years. After feeling comfortable with what his doctors and the Padres’ doctors had to say about his hip, the Padres were able to get the deal done.

“Allan had a strong desire to play for the Padres,” Gayton said. “It was his favorite team, his hometown team and we selected him No. 23 overall, so we certainly didn’t want to run into long-term problems from an organizational standpoint. I mean, you have an extremely talented individual that, hopefully long-term, has a very successful career and we reap the benefits and he does as well.”

Now that he’s signed, Dykstra and the Padres can focus on getting him back into the flow of baseball. When Dykstra was drafted, his college season was already complete as the Demon Deacons did not make the postseason, so he hasn’t been playing competitive baseball for quite some time.

“He certainly missed some time this summer to get a chance to play [with Class A Eugene],” Towers said. “But the key thing is that we got it done and I think it just adds to an already very good 2008 Draft. And now it makes it all that more successful, having Dykstra now as a part of the Padres family.”

Dykstra, who hit .323 with 16 home runs and 50 RBIs for the Demon Deacons, is someone the Padres are excited about getting into PETCO Park.

“He has the type of power that plays at PETCO,” Towers said. “This ballpark certainly won’t be able to hold him. It’s hard to find those types of players out there.”

Dykstra will be sent to Eugene upon his arrival but will tentatively arrive at PETCO on Sunday.

“You want to introduce him to professional baseball,” Gayton said. “You’d like him to interact with his teammates and get a feel for the organization, staff and players that are here and are going to be working with him. Hopefully, he’ll be playing with them for many years.”

On a Friday night on a game I was going to attend. I pulled out at the last minute and gave my tickets a way, and I am glad I did because I would have been yelling my head off to The San Diego Padres’batters, it was hard for my to watch t.v. with the Padres playing poorly and the only football game was the choke-land Raiders and the Tennessee Titans; Titans won 16-17.
For the baseball game Greg”Mad Dog”Madduxhad plenty to be mad about going 7 innings giving up only 5 hits and one run it was earned(the only run) it was one bad pitch by Maddux that was P.Burrell’s 28th homer of the year, also had 4 strikeouts.
The Bullpen was its self of lately again with Clay Hensley,Justin Hampson,Mike Adams and Wilfredo Ledezma combined to throw up 2 shutout innings, giving up only one hit with one walk and 5 strikeouts.
Tomorrow’s game will feature newly acquired Chad Reinekevs. K.Kendrick(10-6) game starts at 7:05pm pt/10:05pm et. T.V: 4SD;RADIO: XPRS 1090/105.7 FM , XEMO 860

By Tim Dierkes

Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes of a rumor that The San Diego Padres might slash payroll from this year’s $73.6MM way down to $40MM.  The Padres reportedly explained this scenario to Brian Giles in an attempt to get him to accept a trade to Boston last week.  Krasovic heard about the pitch via Giles’ teammates, but wasn’t able to draw any comments from GM Kevin TowersScott Miller believes owner John Moores’ divorce is a factor.

The Padres don’t have any large contracts on the books for ‘09; Giles would be their most expensive player at $9MM unless they choose his $3MM buyout.  After that it’s Jake Peavy at $8MM, Khalil Greene at $6.5MM, Chris Young at $4.5MM, and Adrian Gonzalez at $3MM.  By my count they have six arbitration-eligible players, including Josh Bard, Heath Bell, Scott Hairston, and Jody Gerut.  The Padres could retain Giles and still be under $45MM, though that’d leave no money for free agents

After a long day off, The San Diego Padres return to their losing ways of 08′, being out slugged by the Brewers; usually you hear something like “the pads out slugged by brewers” not surprised but when it is 5-2 you think whats wrong with the Brew Crew.

Cha Seung Beak went 6 innings 7 hits 5 runs all earned 4 BB 3 strikeouts and 2 HR given up. Cla Meredith, Wilfredo Ledezma and Clay Hensley combined to throw up 3 shutout innings with two of them coming from Hensley, only giving up one hit one BB and 2 strikeouts.

Batting was not good at all, Kevin Kouzmanoff got is 18th homer run of the year second in as many games, that was is only hit. Jody Gerut hit is 12th of the year and it was his second homer also well in as many games. Other notes: Nick Hundley and Chase Headley both had a hit a piece.

Tomorrow’s game will highlight Josh Banks(3-4) vs. C.C Sabathia(12-8) game starts at 7:05pm pt/10:05pm et
