The San Diego Padres gave up a run in the bottom of the eighth inning and went onto lose 3-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies.  Joe Thatcher gave up a solo home run to Ryan Howard in the the eighth inning that proved to be the game winning hit and run for the Phillies.  Thatcher took the loss which was already his third of the season.

Randy Wolf pitched six innings to start the game and allowed six hits and two runs. Wolf pitched pretty well, it was too bad he couldn’t have pitched farther into the game.  Cla Meredith did get two outs in relief of Wolf before Thatcher came in and gave up the game winning run.

The Padres only two runs came in the first inning when Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run home run off of Adam Eaton.  After the home run the Padres offense struggled the rest of the night as they only had four other hits in the game.
